St. Helens Citizens Day in the Park
Saturday, August 12, 2017 - 11:00am
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 11, 2017
St. Helens, Ore. – Gather your family, grab your neighbors, and plan for a day of fun at Citizens Day in the Park hosted by the City of St. Helens on Saturday, August 12, in McCormick Park, 475 S. 18th Street.
“Citizens Day in the Park is about meeting a neighbor that you haven’t met before and getting out to enjoy our biggest park,” said St. Helens Mayor Rick Scholl, who spearheaded the event. “This day is about getting off your cell phone, turning off the television, and coming out to socialize and have fun.”
Activities during the day are family-friendly and designed for a wide age-range.
The day starts with a car show at 11 a.m. hosted by the Highway 30 Cruisers and sponsored by Les Schwab Tire Center and NAPA Auto Parts. In addition to classic cars, there will also be vehicles from the St. Helens Police Department, Columbia River Fire and Rescue, and the National Guard on display.
Local DJ Ritchie Sanchez will play music from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with different music genres featured throughout the day.
At 1 p.m., enjoy a free barbeque lunch thanks to generous donations from local businesses. Food is first come, first served while supplies last. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided courtesy of St. Helens IGA Fresh Market, antipasto salad by Sunshine Pizza, chips and cookies by Safeway, water by Skinny’s and Chubb’s, ice by Stan’s Refrigeration, condiments and plasticware by Wal-Mart, and tables and chairs by Don’s Rental. People are encouraged to bring a favorite side dish to share with their family and neighbors sitting with them.
St. Helens Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission will be giving away free bicycle helmets to children on a first come, first served basis. The City of St. Helens will provide disc golf frisbees, footballs, soccer balls and a volleyball for people wanting to play games in the park. The first 200 attendees will also receive a free frisbee.
Dutch Bros will be at the park selling smoothies and Rebels.
Additional portable toilets and dumpsters will be available thanks to Hudson Garbage Service.
Any businesses or non-profits that would like to contribute to or participate in Citizens Day in the Park should contact City of St. Helens Communications Officer Crystal Farnsworth at 503-366-8215 or crystalf@ci.st-helens.or.us.
