Who is eligible to serve as a juror?

In order to serve as a juror for the St. Helens Municipal Court, a person must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of the City of St. Helens, and at least 18 years old. Citizens who are 70 years of age or older are encouraged to serve, but will be excused upon request pursuant to state laws.

Fine Payments

The Court accepts cash, checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover for payment of fines.

New Citations:

If you wish to pay your traffic fine by mail, please attach your traffic citation or include the citation number (from the top right corner) on your check or money order. You may also submit a written explanation, if you wish. If you decide to plead guilty or no contest by regular mail, you must submit the full base fine amount shown on your copy of the ticket for each violation listed.

The Court will request that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) suspend your driving privileges for the following reasons:

Criminal Offenses

In municipal courts, a criminal offense is a misdemeanor crime where you could serve jail time. Examples of those offenses include, but are not limited to: Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), Hit and Run, Reckless Driving, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Harassment, and Disorderly Conduct.

Courtroom Conduct

  • Be polite and courteous to the judge, to court personnel, and to those around you.
  • Cell phones, pagers, and other electronic devices should be muted or turned off.
  • Suitable attire is required. No shorts, tank tops, or excessively soiled, damaged, or ill-fitting clothing will be allowed in the courtroom. Remove hats upon entering the courtroom.
  • No smoking, food, or drink is allowed in the courtroom.

Court-Appointed Attorneys

If you have been charged with a crime, you have the right to have an attorney appointed to assist you if you are indigent and cannot afford to hire an attorney without substantial hardship to you or your family.

You will have to complete the application process at the time of arraignment to determine if you qualify for a court-appointed attorney. Applications are confidential and do not become part of the public record.

Municipal Court

Our mission is to guarantee all persons accused of violations or crimes their constitutional rights to a fair and speedy judicial process while preserving their dignity, as well as protecting the rights of the citizens of St. Helens.  

We strive to provide defendants with the tools they need to successfully complete their court requirements. The court staff can answer questions about court schedules, bail amounts, general procedure, and other administrative matters, but cannot give legal advice.
