St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens Public Library invites the community to roll up their sleeves for a day of hands-on making at the library. MakerFest, a day devoted to active learning, returns to the Library on Saturday, February 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

RESCHEDULED EVENT: Due to the potential severe weather anticipated for this weekend and next week, the Conversation Project event (see below) that was scheduled for February 12 is being rescheduled for a date in the future. We will update you with specifics once a new date has been selected. We apologize for the inconvenience. Public safety is our number one priority in making this decision.

The St. Helens Public Library and the Columbia Center will be closed Monday, February 18, 2019 in observance of President's Day.

We will resume normal operating hours at 10am Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

St. Helens, Ore. – Thanks to a grant from the State Library of Oregon, Scappoose and St. Helens public libraries have been working through the fall and winter to merge their individual catalogs into a single system that will benefit both communities. The combined catalog will reduce the annual software maintenance costs for both libraries and improve access to materials for Scappoose and St. Helens library patrons.

St. Helens, Ore. – St. Helens Public Library is hosting a bookmark design contest for youth and teens. A winner selected from each of the three competition age divisions will have his or her bookmark printed and distributed during the St. Helens Summer Library Challenge in June 2019.

The March Book Club theme is RENEWAL AND AWAKENING.  Get yourself ready for Spring by reading a book that inspires the renewal and awakening of heart, spirit, mind, flora, fauna, anything related to new beginnings. Select any work that touches you: fiction, biography, autobiography, or another form of nonfiction.  We'll all have a chance to share our thoughts and book/author recommendations during informal conversation.

Military Records – What You Can Learn From Them

Learn what types of records are most useful in research, where to find the records and how to extract the information they provide. The military keep some of the most extensive records available and they are extremely useful in proving relationships in families. In this presentation, we will examine the true value of these records.

Have you inherited some family tree information but need to know where to start or where to find “the harder stuff?” While each session's topic is unique they all begin with Q&A time so bring those questions and get to know your fellow genial genealogists!

Dan Dieter will demonstrate, through a variety of online tools, how to research Eastern European locations where your relatives may have lived.  In some cases, this can even lead to additional research through European archives.
