Final Community Painting Event at Citizens Day in the Park
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 3, 2018
St. Helens, Ore. – “This is Us” St. Helens is partnering with the City of St. Helens and the St. Helens Arts and Cultural Commission to host their final painting event. The community is invited to participate in the project at Citizens Day in the Park on Saturday, August 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at McCormick Park.
“This is Us” St. Helens is a community art project launched in January 2018 and designed to bring the city of St. Helens together. Residents, businesses, and other community members have spent the past seven months painting miniature houses made of wood blocks at a variety of events. Lead by Joan Youngberg, the project has now collected 3,487 houses.
“Everyone has the chance to paint a house that represents their uniqueness. Bringing all these different types of houses together shows how we are all different but part of the same community,” Youngberg said at a recent event at the Columbia County Fair and Rodeo.
Just under 600 houses were created at the Columbia County Fair and Rodeo.
“We are so close to reaching our goal,” said Youngberg. “How great will it be to see all those colorful, tiny houses each representing a St. Helens resident? I hope people come out to Citizens Day and paint a house or two and be part of this effort.”
After the final event at Citizens Day in the Park on August 11, the houses will be pieced together into one larger piece of art. It will tentatively be on display in the rose garden in front of the County Courthouse in St. Helens from mid-November 2018 through the first part of 2019.
