Open House for Columbia View Park Expansion Project
Tuesday, February 21, 2017 - 6:00pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 7, 2017
St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens community is invited to attend an open house on Friday, March 17, to gather feedback regarding amenities and site design of a proposed Columbia View Park expansion. The open house will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the St. Helens Council Chambers, 265 Strand Street, St. Helens. This is the first of a series of opportunities to provide feedback for the project.
The City of St. Helens has partnered with Portland State University’s (PSU) Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program on the Columbia View Park expansion. The graduate program prepares students for a final project where small teams work to conceive, plan and implement a community-based planning project in close consultation with a committed client. The project will help the students to gain experience working with the public and a local government agency to produce a professional product.
During the open house, the students will give a brief presentation on the Columbia View Park expansion. Attendees will then be given different opportunities to provide feedback on the project through facilitated small and open group discussions. A drawing activity and small survey will also be conducted. Refreshments will be provided. If you are unable to attend the open house, additional opportunities will be available to provide feedback in late April.
The students will use feedback gathered from the open house to develop a set of recommendations that will be an integral part of the project. The students will create an official report outlining a plan of action for the park expansion, including a site plan and recommended project phases that the City of St. Helens will use moving forward.
The park expansion is one of the initial projects anticipated to begin groundbreaking as part of the City’s ongoing Waterfront Redevelopment Project.
