First Neighborhood Meeting for Street Improvement Project
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 2, 2018
St. Helens, Ore. - St. Helens is planning for street improvements to some of the main roads and intersections in the city. To kick off the Riverfront Connector Plan project, the City is hosting the first of three neighborhood meetings on Tuesday, January 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the St. Helens Council Chambers at City Hall.
The Riverfront Connector Plan will create a framework for a cohesive, multi-modal loop from Highway 30 to the Riverfront District and along the waterfront. The project area includes some of the main roads in St. Helens, including Gable Road east of Highway 30, Old Portland Road, Plymouth Street, and a portion of South 1st Street. The new project is intended to tie in with the Corridor Master Plan adopted by the City in 2015 which plans for future improvements to Columbia Boulevard, St. Helens Street, and Highway 30.
Several key intersections have been identified in the Riverfront Connector Plan for improvements. These intersections include:
- Millard Road/Highway 30
- Gable Road/Highway 30
- Gable Road/Old Portland Road
- Kaster Road/South 18th Street/Old Portland Road
- Old Portland Road/Plymouth Street
- Plymouth Street/South 6th Street
At the January 16 meeting, a formal presentation about the project study area will start at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will also review the project schedule, process, work products, and upcoming meetings. Attendees will then have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the project vision, goals, and objectives; street design and intersection improvements; and future land use or development within the study area.
The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 265 Strand Street, St. Helens. The entrance faces the Plaza Square. The facility is handicap accessible. Light refreshments will be provided.
There will be additional opportunities for feedback for anyone who cannot attend the meeting. Sign up for City e-Newsletters at www.ci.st-helens.or.us/community/page/newsletters for notice about future meetings. Meetings will also be announced on the City’s Facebook page (@cityofsthelens) and Twitter account (@sthelens).
More information is available under the “Project Documents” tab on the project’s website at http://www.riverfrontconnectorplan.com/. Additional documents will be uploaded to the site as the project progresses.
This planning process is partially funded by a $208,550 grant from the Transportation Growth Management (TGM) Program, a joint program of the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD).
