Traveling Along the Silk Road

Tuesday, August 6, 2019 - 7:00pm

Our four-month journey in 2018 took us nearly 4,000 miles through China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Georgia. Trucks, trains, marshrutkas and taxis may have replaced the old camel caravans, but the mystique remains. Sleeping in a tent under the Great Wall, sharing family homes and yurts, baking bread with Kyrgyz nomads, drinking wine drawn from vats buried in the earth, and learning to negotiate a maze of autocratic bureaucracy made us realize how quickly the world is changing both socially and politically.  It was an adventure that exposed us to five religions, a half dozen languages, and many, many wonderful people. We want to share their stories.  Presented by Kit and Chip Gardes.
