St. Helens Public Library Booklouse Adoption Program
Inspired by the adopt-don’t-shop movement and in order to solve a recent infestation of booklice at the Library, the St. Helens Public Library is pleased to announce a new booklouse adoption program. This program is ideal for families with children who would like to own a pet but may not yet be old enough for the responsibility of taking care of a puppy or hamster.
The St. Helens Public Library contacted a humane trapping service after discovering a booklice infestation several weeks ago that was causing hundreds of dollars in damage to library books. Each trapped louse has received all its vaccinations, is fully house trained, and comes with a literary name voted upon by Library staff (pictured is Piglet, currently available for adoption).
There is a $2 suggested adoption fee. Funds collected from this program will be used to replace books destroyed by the booklice infestation. A limited supply of booklice are available for adoption. Stop by the Library today to adopt your newest tiny friend.
