St. Helens Public Library Board Book Club
Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 7:00pm
Get into the Spirit of Halloweentown
Join us for the St. Helens Library Board Book Club Kick-Off!
Our new book club will meet quarterly (subject to change as we get established). It is open to the public and all are welcome. Rather than having everyone read the same book, we will each read a book of our choosing that follows a THEME. We'll all have a chance to share our thoughts and book/author recommendations during an informal conversation. Light snacks and beverages will be available for all to enjoy.
For this first club meeting, the theme will be "MYSTERY with a Halloween twist." Ideas include books that involve ghosts, witches, mummies, vampires, etc. The theme for the January meeting will be announced at the October meeting.
To make it easier to select a relevant book, each quarter the library will have a collection set aside. You simply need to ask for the collection at the circulation desk. However, you are not limited to these selections; feel free to get creative! Please also sign-up at the desk so we have your email for sharing updates.
Our "reading window" is shorter for this first meeting, so it's OK to revisit a book you've read in the past if you don't have time to start a new one.
October Conversation Starters
- Why and how did you choose this title?
- Give a brief synopsis and why you liked it and/or didn’t like it. Would you recommend it?
- Had you read this book before? If so, what pulled you back to this title?
- If you could change an event in the story line, what would it be and how would that change the ending, if at all?
The book club is being facilitated by members of the St. Helens Public Library Board. If you have questions, please contact Vice-Chair Leanne Murray at leannepm67@yahoo.com.
