UPDATE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the author has canceled this event.

St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens Public Library will host Jim Rockstad to talk about his book “Rocky’s Road: Stories of 30-Plus Years in the Northwest Drag Racing.” The author talk will take place on Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Rockstad was born and raised in North Portland, and his recently-published book covers his three decades of experience in the world of hot rods, drag racing, and funny cars. After falling in love with Portland drag racing at an early age, Rockstad became a manager at Portland International Raceway (PIR) in 1973, eventually taking the position of general manager of International Raceway Parks.

Rockstad’s book is part memoir and part history. He shares stories of the good old days of drag racing in the Pacific Northwest, chronicles the milestones of West Coast racing, and recounts his personal eyewitness stories to some of the momentous moments that put the Northwest racing scene on the national map.

There will be a free drawing at the St. Helens Public Library author talk. Those who attend the event have a chance to win one of three adult passes for admission and parking to the Portland International Raceway. The passes are good for entry on Saturday, August 18.
