FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens Recreation Program will reduce its fees for its After School Program starting December 1 in part thanks to two grants that were recently awarded to the City of St. Helens from the Ford Family Foundation and the Columbia Pacific Coordinated Care Organization.

The After School Program is hosted at Lewis and Clark Elementary School and provides after school care for children enrolled in the St. Helens School District in kindergarten through sixth grade. Bus service is also available for students of McBride Elementary School who need transportation to Lewis and Clark to attend the program. More information about the program is available on the City of St. Helens website at www.ci.st-helens.or.us/recreation/page/sharp-st-helens-after-school-recr....

Beginning December 1 through June 2018, the After School Program will be available for a monthly rate of $225 per child. This reduces the regular rate from $20 per day to a little over $14 per day. To receive the discount, parents or guardians must pay the full monthly fee by the first of each month.

To enroll your child in the After School Program, register online at https://www.ci.st-helens.or.us/recreation or contact Recreation Coordinator Shanna Duggan at shannad@ci.st-helens.or.us or 503-397-6272, ext. 160.

The City of St. Helens received a $25,000 Children, Youth, and Families Grant in April 2018 from the Ford Family Foundation to assist the newly-created St. Helens Recreation Program in reaching children and youth in the community. The Ford Family Foundation provides grants that serve communities in rural Oregon or Siskiyou, California, with less than 35,000 in population and not adjacent to or part of an urban metropolitan area. The Children, Youth, and Families grants are awarded to organizations that provide services to help children and youth be healthy and strengthen a family’s skills and ability to nurture youth and children.

In September 2018, the City of St. Helens received another grant from the Columbia Pacific Coordinated Care Organization’s Community Wellness Impact Fund (CWIF) for $20,000. Columbia Pacific is a coordinated care organization that provides health care services to Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) members in Tillamook, Clatsop, and Columbia counties. They award CWIF grants to programs that support improved access to health opportunities for those who are low income or live in poverty and to meet the health goals of the Community Health Improvement Plan. The Columbia County Community Health Improvement Plan’s goals are to help prevent obesity and reduce mental illness.
