St. Helens Police Department Brings Back Youth Citation Campaign
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 12, 2018
St. Helens, Ore. – St. Helens youth should pay close attention this summer to a citation campaign being reintroduced by the St. Helens Police Department.
St. Helens officers are currently issuing citations to youth spotted doing good deeds around the city of St. Helens. If you are ticketed by an officer, your “pizza citation” requests your appearance at Sunshine Pizza in September for a pizza party with officers of the St. Helens Police Department.
Caught wearing a bicycle helmet while riding your bike? You may be facing a pizza citation. Spotted using the crosswalk or helping a person pick up items they dropped on the sidewalk? These good deeds are citation worthy.
If you plan to enter a guilty plea to these acts of good behavior, we look forward to your appearance at pizza court with attorneys (a.k.a. family members) of your choosing. Citations entitle the bearer to a free meal and allow family members attending to a meal for $5.
“This is the second time we have held a good behavior citation campaign,” said St. Helens Lt. Joe Hogue. “Programs like this one allow our officers to interact with the community, and children especially, in a relaxed setting. It helps us build community relationships and mutual trust, things that I believe are very important to the success of local law enforcement agencies.”
St. Helens Police Department seeks to ticket up to 100 youth for their acts of good behavior.
The Police Department first launched a youth citation campaign in 2016 under the direction of Lt. Joe Hogue. Sunshine Pizza hosted the pizza party and donated food, drinks, and root beer floats to the youth who were cited.
