St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens Police Department’s sixteenth annual Donut Day on December 8 was a huge success. The yearly fundraiser benefits the Columbia Pacific Food Bank and encourages citizens to visit the police station and trade canned food or cash for Krispy Kreme donuts. The Police Department collected a total of 2,521 pounds of food and $2,800 on behalf of the Food Bank.

“We are honored to partner with the community each year to support our local food bank,” said St. Helens Police Chief Brian Greenway. “In 2017, almost 6,500 emergency food boxes were served in the St. Helens community. Our Police Department feels privileged to hold a fundraiser that benefits some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community, particularly during the holiday season.”

The St. Helens Police Department would like to recognize the community and volunteers who made Donut Day a success, including the St. Helens Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), St. Helens Dutch Bros Coffee, KOHI radio, St. Helens Market Fresh IGA, Richardson’s Furniture, Nastrum’s Needles, Oregon Holly, Centerlogic, InRoads Credit Union (formerly St. Helens Community Credit Union), Kiwanis Daybreakers, Ye Ol’ Grog Distillery, and Yo Place. Special entertainment this year was provided thanks to Officer and Mrs. Claus, the Abominable Snowman, Jeff Mansheim, St. Helens Pentecostal Church, St. Frederic Catholic Church, and the St. Helens High School Choir.

Over the years, the St. Helens Police Department Donut Day event has resulted in an excess of 50,000 pounds of food and over $40,000 in donations collected for the Columbia Pacific Food Bank.
