St. Helens Lieutenant Honored in FBI Community Awards Ceremony

St. Helens, Ore. – On Friday, October 27, 2023, St. Helens Police Lieutenant Joe Hogue was presented with the FBI National Academy Associates Award – Oregon Chapter, by the Portland FBI Office. The award recognizes graduates of the prestigious FBI National Academy who demonstrate the values the FBI promotes daily within their workforce.

Lieutenant Hogue serves as the president of the Oregon Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates Board and continues to be instrumental in ensuring the Oregon Chapter maintains partnerships between federal, state, and local agencies.  

In a press release from the FBI, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Portland Field Office Kieran Ramsey stated, "Today is about thanking our partners, partners across our community, partners from law enforcement, and our partners at the U.S. Attorney's Office. While the FBI is a large federal agency, we are incapable of achieving our mission without all of these partners being recognized today."

When speaking about Lt. Hogue, Ramsey said, "His peers respect and admire his dedication... Lt. Hogue demonstrates the values that the FBI promotes daily within our workforce."

During his tenure with the FBI Associates Oregon Chapter, Lieutenant Hogue has played a vital role in supporting the young leaders of tomorrow through the Youth Leadership Program (YLP). YLP is designed to offer lifelong enrichment opportunities in support of exceptional young leaders' drive for knowledge and their desire to make a difference in the world. The vision of YLP is to develop an influential community of socially conscious and service-minded leaders connected through association who positively shape the world.

St. Helens Police Chief Brian Greenway stated, "Lieutenant Hogue goes above and beyond his normal duties by taking on this additional workload to ensure our nation has future leaders who can continue to make us the greatest country in the world." 

Lt. Hogue began working for the St. Helens Police Department as a reserve officer in 1996. He was hired as a patrol officer in July 1998. During his time at the St. Helens Police Department, he became the use-of-force and defensive tactics instructor for the Department. In 2004, he was promoted to criminal detective, then sergeant in 2007, and lieutenant in 2017. In January 2014, Lt. Hogue started the Department's Reserve Officer Academy. Lt. Hogue was one of three Oregon law enforcement officers in 2016 to travel to the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and graduated from the prestigious ten-week training session.
