Police Officer - Laterals & Recruits

The St. Helens Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Both lateral and recruit applicants are welcome to apply.
Qualifications: Applicants must be 21 years of age; a United States citizen; a high school graduate (or equivalent), however, college is preferred; and possess a valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain one. Lateral applicants must be a Peace Officer's Standards and Training (POST) certified police officer currently employed with a law enforcement agency in any state. Recruit applicants must test through the National Testing Network prior to applying and be able to be certified by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. All candidates must meet department physical ability standards - passing the ORPAT physical agility test within five minutes or less.
Salary/Incentives: The position offers a base wage scale of $4,289 to $5,770 and an excellent benefits package, including financial incentives for education and physical fitness. The maximum salary with incentives (at step 6) ranges from $6,059 to $6,676. The City is offering Laterals a $13,000 signing bonus (see below) or you may choose the Career Commitment, Residency & Longevity Reward Program which can help eligible employees purchase homes within the St. Helens School District boundary (valued at $25,000). In addition, we will allow laterals to rollover up to 120 hours of vacation from their previous employer. Recruits are eligible for the Career Commitment, Residency & Longevity Reward Program only.

If you are a veteran and would like veterans’ preference points, please complete that form as well and attach required documentation. The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check.

Signing Bonus
The signing bonus would be paid in the following increments:
$3,000 upon hire
$5,000 at 12-month anniversary from hire date and completion of probation
$5,000 at 2-year anniversary from hire date
