Enhanced DUII and Safety Belt Patrols in St. Helens
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 9, 2018
St. Helens, Ore. – During the month of September 2018, the St. Helens Police Department participated in additional DUII patrols thanks to grant funding provided by Oregon Impact. As a result, three DUII arrests were made during the enhanced patrol periods. Additionally, the St. Helens Police Department made a total of nine DUII-alcohol and one DUII-drug arrests and issued 131 traffic citations during the entire month of September. A total of 365 traffic contacts were made for various traffic violations throughout the month.
“The St. Helens Police Department would like to remind everyone to keep making a safety plan to get home. Should you elect to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you risk endangering lives and getting arrested. Please drive responsibly,” Sgt. Jose Castilleja said.
The St. Helens Police Department also participated in enhanced safety belt enforcement patrols during August and September with grant funding provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation Safety Division. Five seatbelt citations were issued, one felony arrest was made, three speeding citations, and three suspended drivers were cited during the enhanced patrols.
“Using safety belts is not just the law; seatbelts save lives. We invite you to remind your passengers to buckle up every time as well. Remember: Click-it or Ticket,” Sgt. Castilleja continued.
