National Engineers Week: Meet Alex Bird
In the continuing spirit of Engineers’ Week, we’d like to introduce you to the Engineering Division’s newest member: Alex Bird!
Alex joined us earlier this month as a Civil Engineer. He has already made a great impact on our Engineering Division, where (among other things) he’s been finalizing sanitary sewer plans, assisting on the Water Master Plan, and helping with contracts and other documents.
Alex graduated from Oregon State University’s Civil Engineering Cooperative Program. During his time at OSU, Alex interned with both the Oregon Department of Transportation and WHPacific (now NV5). Following Alex’s internship, WHPacific hired him full-time in their Aviation and Land Development departments. You can see some of Alex’s past work in Scappoose, where he was part of the Scappoose Airport Taxiway Rehabilitation Project! He has also done work on other airports across the northwest.
Alex says he’s looking forward to applying his skillset to the ongoing Waterfront Redevelopment Project, which he says is an exciting opportunity to use his civil engineering background to help the City.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys all things coastal. He spends time crabbing, fishing, and boating with his family. He was a member of the OSU marching band, where he met his wife Erin (of St. Helens Parks & Recreation). Alex is a fan of disc golf and other sports, as well. He even ran in the Tracktown Relay in Eugene the day before the 2012 London Olympic Trials!
We’re happy to have Alex as the newest member of our Engineering team. His extensive skills have already been a tremendous asset to the Engineering Division. We can’t wait to see what Alex continues to bring to the table in the years to come.
