Engineers Week - Did You Know That...?
It's Engineers Week! This week we're recognizing the City of St. Helens Engineering Department and sharing some of the work they do for the city.
Did you know that…
- …the City runs a Sewer Lateral Rehabilitation Program which ensures that the connection between your home and the main sewer line is in good condition? St. Helens is one of the most successful cities in the country when it comes to replacing sewer laterals. Our homeowner sewer replacement rate is over 95%! Our Engineering staff have been invited to speak at national Public Works conferences to demonstrate the successes of the program and provide a model for other cities to follow.
- …Since 2016, the City of St. Helens Engineering Department has successfully completed more than 12 Capital Improvement Projects? Those projects have totaled over $2.4 million in infrastructure investments which have contributed to:
- replacing, repairing, and updating sewer infrastructure
- constructing storm drains
- replacing old water lines
- paving and sealing City streets
- And much more!
- …We’re currently in the process of implementing six different projects, including the North Vernonia Road Sidewalk Project, Campbell Park sports courts and storm drainage improvements, and the installation of new playground equipment at McCormick Park.
- …Our Engineering Department accomplishes everything with a staff of just three people: one Engineer, one Project Manager, and one Public Works Construction Inspector.
