The City of St. Helens is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Water Filtration Facility Supervisor in our Public Works Department.  The Water Filtration Division provides safe and healthy drinking water through a state-of-the-art facility which uses a hollow micro-fiber filtration process. The staff of two keep the facility operating seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Filtration Facility is designed to produce up to six million gallons of water per day and on average produces approximately 1.3 million gallons of filtered drinking water each day.

This position oversees, maintains and operates the drinking water treatment facility, the process and equipment which is controlled using a computerized SCADA system.  In the daily operational activities of the Supervisor, you will apply your knowledge, experience and skills to make informed process control or system integrity decisions that directly impact the quality or quantity of drinking water that affect public health.  Performs all regular and non-routine Water Filtration Facility operations and maintenance, including lab and clerical work.  Performs all activities necessary to maintain structures, equipment, and grounds.  Trains and supervises work activities of employees with less skill and experience.  Writes and maintains the standard operating procedures and protocols manual for the Water Filtration Facility.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education and Experience

  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent plus post high school education that is acceptable to the State of Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), and
  • Eight (8) years’ operating experience of which four years must have been involved in operational decision making directly relating to the operation of a drinking water treatment process or facility, and
  • Training or experience in micro-fiber filtration facilities, technologies or processes, or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience in a drinking water system or in a related field as allowed under DHS regulations.

Terms of Employment:

  • Salary:  $5,212 (Step 1) to $6,336 (Step 5).
  • Excellent benefits package.
  • This is an exempt position.
