Building Official

The City of St. Helens seeks a qualified full-time Building Official to perform a variety of routine and complex technical work in building, plumbing, and mechanical inspection work to ensure compliance with building codes, plumbing codes, mechanical codes, and other related codes.
Qualifications: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent; five years of experience and/or education in general construction and related fields.
Required certifications:
- Residential Structural Inspector Certification
- Commercial Structural Inspector Certification
- Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification
Possess or be able to obtain one or more of the following within six months of employment:
- Residential Plans Examiner Certification
- Commercial Plumbing Inspector Certification
- A-Level Fire & Life Safety Plans Examiner Certification
- Commercial Plans Examiner Certification
ICC certifications may qualify.
A complete list of duties and responsibilities and desired minimum qualifications are listed on the job description below. The City is flexible with required certifications so as to attract a larger pool of candidates. However, the successful candidate will need to acquire additional certifications as stated.
Salary: The rate of pay is $6,379 per month (step 1) to $7,755 per month (step 5). This is not a union-covered position. This position is part of the City's Management Team.
