St. Helens, Ore. – Gather your family, grab your neighbors and friends, and plan for a day of fun at the fifth annual Citizens Day in the Park hosted by the City of St. Helens. The community celebration is happening on Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in McCormick Park, 475 S. 18th Street.

Citizens Day in the Park is a day focused on making and strengthening community connections. It’s an opportunity for people to put down their cell phones, turn off the television, and enjoy a day of fun in a local park with friends and family. Activities are family-friendly and designed for a wide age-range.

“With COVID restrictions finally lifted, I think we’re all ready to enjoy a summer of face-to-face connections again,” said St. Helens Mayor Rick Scholl. “Citizens Day is a great way for you to enjoy a day outdoors where you can meet community members, participate in free activities, and learn about local businesses, non-profits, and other organizations in our vendor area.”

Activities include a free barbeque lunch, car show, live music, free recreation games, and vendor booths featuring local non-profits, organizations, and businesses. The lunch is available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, and chips will be served. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Picnic tables will be at the park, but seating is not guaranteed.

Citizens Day in the Park is made possible thanks to generous donations from local businesses and help from local volunteers. Past annual contributors include St. Helens Market Fresh IGA, Safeway, Sunshine Pizza, Skinny’s, Walmart, and Stan’s Refrigeration. Current confirmed donors and volunteers for this year’s event include:

  • Sunshine Pizza
  • St. Helens Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.)
  • American Heritage Girls Troop OR 3130
  • Trail Life Troop OR 0610
  • Girl Scouts Troop 10486
  • Hometown Heroes
  • Columbia County NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

Anyone interested in donating to Citizens Day in the Park should contact Lisa Scholl at lscholl@sthelensoregon.gov or 503-366-8216.

Planning is still taking place for this event. Visit the City’s website at www.sthelensoregon.gov/community/page/citizens-day-park where a list of activities, vendors, donors, and volunteers will be updated.

Vendors are welcome at Citizens Day but need to pre-register. Space is limited and spots are almost full. Vendors should apply for a space as soon as possible. There is no vendor fee and concession fees are being waived for this event. To promote community resources and shopping local, space preference is being given to local non-profits and businesses. Each booth is being asked to host a family-friendly activity. To find out additional vendor information and fill out an application form, visit the City’s Citizens Day event website at www.sthelensoregon.gov/community/page/citizens-day-park.

Volunteers are a vital part of making Citizens Day a success. Volunteers are needed to assist with the event set up and clean up, welcome booth, serving food, and more. Any groups or individuals interested in volunteering should fill out an interest form at www.sthelensoregon.gov/community/page/citizens-day-park. A City staff member will follow up with you after receiving your interest form.
